Spend two full days visiting and observing gemstone-mining locations in Ratnapura. Discover the traditional methods used to locate, extract and wash gem-bearing gravel while gaining a deeper understanding of the patience, skill and uncertainty involved in every discovery.

The Ratnapura Gem Market
Experience the distinctive atmosphere of Ratnapura’s traditional gemstone market. Observe how natural rough stones are presented, examined, negotiated and traded within one of Sri Lanka’s most established gem communities.

Beruwala Gem Market
Travel from Ratnapura to Beruwala and visit another prominent gemstone-trading destination. Explore a different side of Sri Lanka’s gem market and gain insight into the movement of stones from mining regions to buyers and dealers.
